Funder Compliance

Publishing with ACM Open means your research meets the open access requirements of major funders worldwide.

As of January 1, 2026, ACM publications will be fully Open Access under the ACM Open publishing model. This ensures that your work is free to read - maximizing visibility, impact, and compliance with funder mandates. For authors affiliated with institutions not participating in ACM Open, authors will be required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) if they are not eligible for either a geographic or discretionary waiver.

About Funder Compliance

Many research funders now require that published work be openly accessible under specific licensing terms. ACM Open is designed to fully support these requirements, so authors can publish confidently knowing their articles comply with the policies of leading funding organizations.

ACM Open helps authors:

  • Comply with public and private funder mandates for Open Access publication
  • Retain Copyright and Publish their work under a Creative Commons license that permits sharing and reuse
  • Benefit from demonstrated significant increases in usage and citation from Open Access publication in the ACM Digital Library
